House Rules

  • Supervisory staff are on site from 8.00 am to act as contact partners. Children/pupils may not enter the building before 8.15 am.
  • Rough play is not permitted on school premises at any time in order to prevent the risk of accidents and to ensure that mutual consideration is shown.
  • Teacher authorisation is required for entry to the balcony and roof.
  • Knives, weapons of any sort and any other kind of dangerous object are prohibited.
  • The German School Chennai is a smoke-free school.
  • Alcohol and drugs are not permitted at the German School Chennai.
  • Appropriate clothing is required.
  • The use of electronic devices (mobile telephones, digital cameras, MP3 players, etc.) is strictly prohibited during teaching time. The use of such equipment outside teaching time is permitted only with teacher authorisation.
  • Teacher authorisation is required for all use of the school’s musical instruments and sports equipment.
  • Eating, drinking and chewing gum are prohibited during teaching time. Exceptions may be made only after authorisation from the teacher in charge.
  • Valuables and large amounts of money should not be brought into the school.
  • In case of a fire alarm, all children/pupils should leave the school building immediately in accordance with the instructions on the notice board in the entrance.
  • Children/pupils are not permitted to leave the school premises during teaching time.
  • Parents must inform the secretariat in advance of any intention to pick up children/pupils before the end of school. A valid reason should be stated.
  • Air conditioning should be used sensibly and should be switched off if a room is to be vacated for lengthy periods.
  • Each member of the school community shares responsibility for cleanliness and tidiness throughout the school premises. This particularly applies to the toilets.
  • Classes are responsible for cleanliness and tidiness within their own classrooms and for making sure that any objects are not damaged. Class teachers may designate specific responsibility to children/pupils in this area.
  • The teacher responsible for supervision will decide where pupils may be accommodated in the event of rain or hot weather. This also applies to the period before school begins.
  • Lost property will be deposited in the “Lost and Found Basket” in the school foyer.
  • Children/pupils may only use the phone in the secretariat in urgent cases.
  • Visitors to the school must register at the secretariat immediately.
  • Parents and family members must remain in the foyer or secretariat unless they have the authorisation of a teacher to enter other areas.
  • Any exceptions to the House Rules are subject to approval by school management.

Kitchen rules and lunch

  • Children/pupils may not enter the kitchen unless an adult is present.
  • Nothing may be removed from the kitchen without permission from school staff.
  • No one is permitted to be in the kitchen without permission from school management.
  • Each class group eats lunch together. A teacher or member of the supervisory staff must be present at all times.
