School Rules

1. Legal basis
The school rules serve the informal and formal care and education of children from the age of two until the end of schooling.

2. Admission criteria

  1. The policy of the nursery school is to admit children of any nationality and religion.
  2. Children are required to have sufficient knowledge of the German or English language.
  3. Children are admitted from the age of 18 months. Children will not, however, be admitted less than 12 months before commencement of compulsory schooling.
  4. Admission of children is dependent on the number of available places. If there are insufficient vacancies, selection will take place according to the following criteria:
    1. Children with at least one German-speaking parent;
    2. Children who already have a sibling at the DSC;
    3. On the basis of the date on which application for admission to the DSC was made.

3. Registration

  1. Written registration may be made at any time.
  2. Those registering children are required to provide information about the child and the child’s parents/guardians when submitting a registration. For this purpose, a registration form must be filled out, signed and returned to the nursery school management.
  3. Personal information will be treated confidentially and will not be passed on to third parties.

4. Admission

  1. Admission does not take place at any fixed time. Notwithstanding this, children are usually admitted at the beginning of the nursery school year in September.
  2. When a child is admitted to the nursery school, parents/guardians are required to submit a medical certificate indicating that a child is suitable to attend the nursery school in terms of health. The certificate must indicate that a child is not suffering from any infectious disease.
  3. The nursery school management will in all cases decide on the admission of a child and will accord due consideration to relevant social and educational factors in reaching this decision.
  4. No formal right to a place in the institution is established until a written educational and childcare agreement between parents and the DSC is in place.
  5. Parents/guardians will be informed in writing of the admission of a child.

5. Nursery school year
The nursery school year begins on 1 September each year and ends on 31 August of the following year.

6. Opening times

  1. Opening times are stated in the schedule of fees. This forms part of the Nursery School Regulations.
  2. The DSC reserves the right to amend opening times for human resources or other reasons. Parents will be advised without delay of any such amendment.
  3. Regular daily opening times are: Monday to Friday from 8.15 am 4.00 pm.
  4. Parents and guardians are required to comply with the usual drop-off and pick-up times punctually and regularly. The nursery school team should be informed by telephone if a child is unable to attend nursery school.

7. Holiday periods/times of closure

  1. Times of closure are stipulated by the team and will be publicised at the first parents‘ evening of the year and displayed on the notice board. Times of closure are aligned to the Bavarian school holidays.
  2. The DSC may close the institution at short notice without assuming liability for any financial loss which may arise in the event of unforeseen circumstances (such as failure of air conditioning equipment, staff shortage, illness or Acts of God).

8. Fees

  1. The amount of fees payable, the form in which payment must be made and the due dates of fees are stated in the schedule of fees. This forms part of the Nursery School Regulations.
  2. Fees are also payable during periods of closure, especially during the month of August, in the case of temporary closure, in the case of long-term absence of a child, in cases where short notice has been given that parents will not avail themselves fully of periods of childcare booked and during the period of notice prior to any cancelation.

9. Catering

  1. Children are provided with snacks and lunch at kindergarten and school. These cost are not included in the school fees. They are separately billed in the invoice.
  2. Parents will be sent a menu plan two weeks in advance from which they make a selection.

10. Supervision
The DSC assumes a duty of supervision during the period of attendance at the nursery school and in respect of any events staged by the nursery school.
This duty of supervision begins once a child has entered the nursery school and his or her presence has been registered with staff. The duty of supervision ends when the child leaves the nursery school.
At events staged by the nursery school at which parents/guardians are also present, duty of supervision is incumbent on parents/guardians.
Duty of supervision during a child’s journey to/from the nursery school is incumbent on parents/guardians. The Nursery school management must be informed in writing if a child is to be picked up by a person other than its parent/guardian.

11. Liability

  1. The DSC cannot accept any liability for loss, confusion or damage to clothing or any other valuables in the possession of a child.
  2. Parents/guardians are liable for any deliberate damage to nursery school property caused by children. Parents may be liable in certain circumstances for harm occasioned to a third party by children. For this reason, we recommend that parents/guardians take out private liability insurance.
  3. No claims for compensation may be asserted against the DSC in respect of closure of the institution.
  4. Personal injury occurring during the stay in dthe premises or the grounds of the German School in Chennai are not insured. Insurance of the children through their parents is therefore recommended.

12. Illness

  1. Management must be informed of any specific circumstance relating to a child’s health or constitution such as disabilities, allergies or intolerances.
  2. Children who are ill may not attend the nursery school during their period of illness. The same applies if infectious diseases are present within a child’s personal living environment. The nursery school may require the prior submission of a medical certificate before a child is readmitted.
  3. The nursery school management must be notified of illnesses without delay. The reason for illness and the prospective duration of any such illness must also be stated.

  2. Children may be permanently excluded from attendance at the nursery school in the event of serious breaches of the present regulations. In such circumstances, notice of termination will be given by the DSC with a period of notice of one month to the end of the following month.
  3. Exclusion may also take place in circumstances where parents/guardians have failed to meet their obligation to pay fees for the previous two months despite having received a reminder that such fees are due.
  4. Children must be temporarily excluded from attendance at the nursery school in the event of suspicion of an infectious disease or in the event that a child is seriously ill.

15. Cooperation of parents/guardians

  1. Cooperation and understanding on the part of parents/guardians are an essential prerequisite for the provision of high-quality and sustainable pedagogical work within the nursery school. For this reason, parents/guardians should attend parents‘ events on a regular basis and should avail themselves of the opportunities to discuss their children’s progress.
  2. It is in the interests of the pedagogical work we pursue and in the child’s own interests for children to attend the institution on a regular and punctual basis in accordance with the agreed reserved childcare periods.
  3. In order to ensure availability in the event of an emergency, parents/guardians are requested to provide their address, private and mobile telephone numbers and wherever possible a telephone number on which they may be reached at work.
